Matka Canyon

Some of my favorite posts on Facebook are from my son Adam.  He will often write...Today is Sunday; and on Sunday we hike.  It warms my heart because it is a wonderful activity to do with his family, and I am sure his boys will look back at this time and remember it fondly.  I also hope they will learn to become life long hikers.

Lance and I have been hiking a lot lately...and the more we hike, the more we enjoy it.  We now actively search out places to hike at each new place that we stay.  Here in Macedonia, we took a terrific hike a few days ago in Matka Canyon.  It was a quick 45 minute drive on the city bus to get there...and well worth the trip.

Check out the kayak's you can rent in the right hand corner of this picture.

When we first arrived we took a boat trip to visit a cave located in the canyon.

Colored lights highlighting the stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave.

After returning, we set off down the trail that hugs the side of the mountain.

Then, returned to have a lovely lunch at the restaurant located near the entrance of the trail.

Even if you can't afford a meal inside the restaurant, which is a little pricey by Macedonia standards, you could certainly enjoy a cafe or a glass of wine on the terrace.  We enjoyed both places.

Just another wonderful day in Macedonia.  Since this will be my last post at this location, I wanted to share a few more pictures from our daily walk to the park.  A taste of fall for two people who haven't been able to enjoy this season for the past 4 years.

And...a little street art...which can be found on the brick wall surrounding the zoo.
